On October 26 (Wednesday), a public lecture at Civic University, "The forefront of effective utilization of unused parts of whales-industry-academia initiatives aimed at commercialization-" was held online.
Professor KISHIMOTO Mitsuhiro, a professor at Faculty of Economics, gave a lecture on the history and current status of whaling and the use of whale oil, and introduced the latest information on the use of unused parts of whales other than whale meat, such as whale oil and whale bones.
In the course, the history of whaling in Japan originally had a culture of using the captured whales, but research and technology development on the effective use of whales while commercial whaling stopped were also stopped. He mentioned the situation that had been stopped, and introduced examples of industry, government and academia working together to promote various demonstration tests and product development.
In the fall semester of 2022, we are planning to offer a total of 3 courses, and we are still recruiting students for courses 2 and 3 (all courses will be online courses for FY2022).
