Kanmon Regional Joint Research
This is a joint research project with Kitakyusyu City University. In 1994, OIST and Kitakyusyu City University (then "Kitakyushu University") launched the "Kanmon Regional Joint Study Group" to study the so-called "Kanmon" areas of Shimonoseki City and Kitakyushu City. Behind this is the opportunity to think about the development of industrial, commercial and cultural spheres, even though administrative districts are different, between the two cities, across the Kanmon Straits. This is a unique joint research project that focuses on "Kanmon integration" that transcends administrative divisions. The thoughts of both cities and both municipal universities coincided and formed this study group.
At Kitakyusyu City University, the University's Regional Strategy Research Institute is involved in the operation and planning of the university, establishing research themes, and organizing a project team to promote research.
Every year, the results are published as “Kanmon Regional Studies” and results briefings are held.
