New tuition and study support system
Tuition Reduction System
As a measure to reduce tuition fees, there is a system to reduce tuition fees to be paid for each term (spring and fall semesters). In addition to the reduction of taxes, there is also a system for paying tuition fees.
The tuition reduction system has the following system.
- Based on the "Law Concerning Study Support at Universities," "Reduction of tuition fees under the new system for studying at higher education" (you can also receive scholarships from the Japan Student Services Organization.) Please see the new system for studying in higher education (link).
- Tuition fee reduction in consideration of damage caused by disasters
OIST has a system to reduce or exempt tuition fees if a person who pays tuition fees falls under (1) below due to a disaster.
(1) Target person Person who suffered damage to house or household goods more than half destroyed by earthquake, storm and flood damage, fire or other disaster
(Only once per disaster within one year prior to application)
(2) Reduced amount of tuition reduced or exempted up to half of the semester tuition fee
(3) Application acceptance period Acceptance at any time
(4) Submit application documents to the Student Support Division window.

- Tuition reduction for international students, graduate students, and special major students
(1) Applicants (international students, graduate students, special major students) have good academic performance and shortest enrollment period.
Can graduate or complete
If the person who is expected to pay the tuition fee falls under the following:
①When the total income of the household to which the target student belongs is less than the standard amount specified separately.
②In addition, if Chair deems it particularly necessary
(2) Judging criteria Comprehensive judgment based on academic performance and household status up to the previous semester
(3) Application acceptance period
Spring Semester: Scheduled from mid-January to mid-March
Fall Semester: Scheduled from early July to late August
(4) Application Procedure
At the counter of International Exchange Center (international students) and Student Support Division (graduate students and special major students), "Application for Reduction of Exemption" during the application period.
Please receive the necessary documents and apply by the deadline.
(5) Notes- The screening will be based on academic performance and household status up to the previous semester, so the screening results may differ for each period. In addition, since the reduction of taxes is carried out within the limited budget, it may not be exempted even if the examination criteria are met.
- The application qualifications and application procedures for the spring semester at the time of enrollment (1st year) are different from the above (excluding international students). Details will be announced via e-mail, bulletin board, website, etc.
