I have ordered Chair, a public university corporation, Shimonoseki City University. With Shimonoseki Commercial Junior College as its predecessor, it was opened as a four-year university, and 17 years since it became a public university, we will do our utmost to further develop our university.

By the way, Japan has already shifted to a full-scale population decline society, and the 18-year-old population has been almost halved since peaking in 1992. In addition, the evolution of technology and the wave of globalization are increasing, and the world is only increasing uncertainty, such as endless conflicts and the emergence of new infectious diseases. These trends are inevitably urge universities to change, and even in local public universities, no exception.
Under these circumstances, TUFS has long been a single university in Faculty of Economics. In April 2024, Faculty of Data Science joined the Faculty of Nursing in April 2025, and in April 2025, it became a general university.

Based on the new university brand concept, we will promote interdisciplinary and diverse education and research through the fusion of three different fields of economy, data science, and nursing, and aim to solve social issues and contribute to the community while reconsidering the significance of Shimonoseki City University in Shimonoseki City.
