The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) offers scholarships to international students who wish to study at Japanese universities and colleges of technology in 2023. In selecting, "Setting a curriculum based on social needs" was evaluated as a notable content.

OIST plans to establish the Faculty of Data Science (tentative name, under application for approval) in April 2024 to foster human resources who will support the future through the realization of higher-quality education. By mastering the theory and practice related to mathematical statistics, informatics, and social sciences necessary to design, analyze, and utilize diverse data, we aim to contribute to solving social and organizational issues and to create new value.
