We have recently appointed Shimonoseki City University Chair. We will do our utmost to further develop our university, with the weight of history and tradition that has been 62 years since we opened Shimonoseki Commercial Junior College as our predecessor as a four-year university and 17 years since we became a public university.

By the way, Japan has already shifted to a full-scale population decline society, and the 18-year-old population has almost halved since peaking in 1992. In addition, the wave of technological evolution and globalization is increasing, and the world is only increasing uncertainty, with endless conflicts and new infections occurring. These trends are inevitably demanding change from universities, and even in local public universities, they are no exception.
Under these circumstances, TUFS has long been a single university in Faculty of Economics, but Faculty of Data Science joined in April 2024 and Faculty of Nursing (provisional name, application for approval) in April 2025.
“Towards the future. With a new university brand concept, we will promote interdisciplinary and diverse education and research by integrating three different fields of economy, data science, and nursing, and promote Shimonoseki City University in Shimonoseki City. We will aim to solve social issues and contribute to the community while reconsidering the significance of the existence of Shimonoseki City University.

Even as a corporation, we will continue to promote initiatives to make this new step more powerful and reliable, and we look forward to your continued support and cooperation.
