On the evening of June 7, 2013 (Friday), Turkish Ambassador to Japan Serdal Kurch and his wife paid a courtesy call to Mayor Tomoaki Nakao Shimoseki. A student from Shimonoseki City University, which is engaged in mutual dispatch of students with Boğaziçi University in Istanbul, also attended and gave a greeting.

Aika Nishida, who had been studying in Boğaziçi University for one year, and Mizuki Toi, who is planning to study abroad for one year from September this year.

Mayor Nakao introduced the two to Ambassador Kurch and gave a speech in Turkish. In particular, conversations were excited about the commonalities between Istanbul and Shimonoseki. "It's a Turkish language that's much better than my Japanese," said Mr. Kuruchi with humor. Mrs. Ambassador also said, "Please have a lot of good experiences in studying in Turkey in the future."
