On October 18, 2014 (Saturday), at the main building I-206, Shimonoseki City University, "The 7th Whale Reference Room Symposium: Follow the Whale Industry in Shimonoseki: Open Interview focusing on the Age of Commercial Whaling-" was held.
In the first part, entitled "Ocean Fishery and Shimonoseki Seen from the Ocean Wheels", Toshiyuki Satake, a teacher at Ikuno Elementary School in Shimonoseki City, reported on the ocean fishery and Shimonoseki from the perspective of professional baseball. In addition, Mr. Mitsuhiro Kishimoto, a researcher commissioned by Shimonoseki City University Regional Co-creation Center, gave a report entitled "Shimonoseki's Whale Industry Seen from Data", and looked back on the past based on detailed data.
In the second part, the above two were Umeo Tsuneoka, former factory manager of Hayashikane Sangyo Co., Ltd., Masatake Taga, former engineer of Hayashikane Ship Co., Ltd., and Junko Kojima, manager of Shimonoseki Whale Museum. We had a public interview while conducting a panel discussion.
From your professional standpoint, you spoke about your passion for whales and whaling while looking back on the age of commercial whaling.
Approximately 50 participants were listening eagerly, and it was a fruitful symposium.
